This quote from the Politico story about Powell going on MTP kind of struck me...

"It's going to make a lot of news, and certainly be personally embarrassing for McCain," a McCain official said. "It comes at a time when we need momentum, and it would create momentum against us."

Could they be making people think that he's going to endorse Obama, when they know he'll be coming out for McCain?

So here are the facts...

Joe (his real name is Sam) is worried that that if he got his plumbing business, Barack Obama is going punish him with all these taxes.  Well, let's take a look at what kind of plumbing business "Joe" would have to run in order to pay an extra $1500 under Barack's plan:

Barack's plan would tax an extra 3% on TAXABLE income ABOVE $250,000/yr.  That's after all of your write-offs, and everything BELOW $250,000 stays exactly the same that it is now.

So lets say "Joe" spends 75K a year in business expenses, pays 10K/yr in mortgage interest, and probably another 15K/yr in other deductions (school, kids etc)

In order to pay an extra $1500 per year in income tax under Obama's plan, you would have to make $300,000 in taxable income (300,000 - 250,000 = 50,000 x 0.03 =$1500)

So take that $300,000, add all of his business expenses and other write-offs, HE WOULD HAVE TO RUN A PLUMBING BUSINESS THAT DOES $400,000.00 PER YEAR.   $1500 per year is pennies to the dollar for ANYONE who has a TAXABLE income of 300K.  People need to know this...spread the word!
